30 Rock

THIS IS OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE COMEDY EVER CREATED. Tina Fey, or Tina Bae as we call her, is Bae and does not disappoint in this amazingly witty and funny show. We actually own all the seasons of this show on DVD. For those who are thinking “why should we care what you own them on DVD?” Let us tell you that in a world of digital downloads and Netflix/online streaming, we went out and bought a hard copy of this show so it would never leave our side. We cannot express how much love we have for this show.

Every time we watch 30 Rock we catch some new witty little quip we never got the first time around. Seriously, every time we watch it, we find something new to laugh about.

30 Rock is a satirical comedy based on the life and work of Tina Fey. Tina was a head writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL) and experienced both behind the scenes and in front of the camera at SNL. She uses stereotypes in a smart sassy way to bring each character to life.

Alec Baldwin plays Jack Donaghy, a conservative republican, scotch drinking womanizer who is the head of NBC. Then you have Tina Fey playing Liz Lemon, the head writer of a live broadcast show once a week (SNL type show). Liz Lemon is very liberal always trying to make speeches for the little guy or the underdog. She is very anal about things but it is understandable because of what she deals with on a daily basis running a live TV show.

Her problems persist with Tracy Jordan playing Tracy Morgan, a funny version of himself and Jane Krakowski (from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) who plays Jenna. Jenna (favorite character alert) is a narcissistic blonde bitchy actress who is exceedingly difficult to deal with.

Jenna and Liz are best friends and have this rivalry between them sometimes that just makes everything funnier. Jenna has the best lines in the entire show and she does not disappoint. Tracy and Jenna are difficult, crazy, irresponsible and unapologetic, making Liz Lemon act like a parental figure to them.

This show is brilliant with its one liners and zingers which have you laughing out loud harder than Amy Schumer at a church bake sale. But for real laughing out loud, not like the LOL you type at the end of every text you send.

This is the best comedy we had ever seen besides Friends. But in our opinion it is better than Friends because we relate to Tine Bae’s humor more than we should. Everything Tina Bae touches turns to gold. She is like Queen Midas when it comes to comedy. She could only rival Lucille Ball, who actually is related to us. We love some Lucy.

You kind of need to experience the show for yourself to decide if this love affair is worth it or not. There are 7 season with about 15-23 episodes per season. Each episode is only 22 minutes long so it is easy to binge and perfect for ADHD/ADD people like The Netflix Nanny.

We never got too distracted or lost on the plot. And besides a few cosmetic/relationship changes, you could skip around the show and still grasp what is happening in the plot. It is more sitcom type so you have a safe home base for each episode where different antics and brouhaha ensue.

This is our number one recommended comedy ever and is one of our top 5 shows ever made. Again our top 5 is Desperate Housewives, Lost, 30 Rock, American Horror Story and How To Get Away With Murder.

We have never actually spoken to or met anyone who watched a few episodes and just hated it. But like Gretchen Weiners says in Mean Girls “You may think you like someone, but you could be wrong.” Meaning we may love this show but you may hate it.

Our advice is to watch a few episodes of season 1 to get a feel for the show. It stays pretty consistent with the vibe and comedy throughout all seasons. The only warning is that each season gets better and probably got more funding to get bigger and better. There is a shit ton of product placement but they use it to be funny. Such as purposely breaking 4th wall to promote a product just to show you that they had to in order to get funding to make the episode. Genius.

We have watched all the season countless times. This is our go to show when we need to Facebook, or write or play video games while having a show on in the background to have some noise. We always end up putting Facebook down to laugh along with this hilarious gem.

Start this show today if you need a laugh or even if you don’t. We promise you will laugh and it will bring a smile to your face.

Side note warning: Now that the show has ended, some of the current event topics are a bit outdated. BUT if you kept up with pop culture or politics or news in the last 10 years than you should be just fine to understand all the jokes and the witty humor in 30 Rock.

5/5 stars for this show and a 10/10 rating for binge worthy success
