Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life

This is an example of good nostalgic Tv. Gilmore Girls was such a big deal to us and many many other people we know. If you don’t know the plot to Gilmore Girls, you may want to watch the 7 seasons on Netflix before you tackle this reunion show. The new trend seems to be reviving old classics and we think it’s freaking genius.

It is hit or miss with these reunion shows though. Don’t get us started on Fuller House….maybe We’ll do that one next. (Spoiler alert: we did.)

A short summary, (favorite character alert) Lorelai Gilmore (The Mom) and Lorelai “Rory” Gilmore (The Daughter) are like best fucking friends. Every mother and daughter dream relationship. They are a witty, sarcastic, funny duo who binge watch movies while eating pizza and popcorn.

The show centers on Lorelai’s parents (the mom) who are super rich in an uptight aristocrat society. She left it all when her parents shun her for being pregnant. At the age of 16 she moves to the small town of Stars Hollow and raises her daughter Rory alone.

This reunion show is leaps and bounds better than the hot mess that is Fuller House. They actually keep all the original characters and almost every single character is in this reunion special.

Now the breakdown of binge watching this show is very different. It only has 4 episodes. I know, 4 is never enough for a Gilmore girl like us. But it will have to do until we get another amazing season. If we even get one at all. (fingers crossed)

So each of the four episodes are divided by seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Each episode being 1 hour and 30 min long. This means 6 whole hours of Gilmore Girls!!

Not only can you watch it in a day, but it is actually really good. They really do pick up right where they left off, even if it is years later. It just seems like a natural direction that the show would go in.

So we would say if you loved the show, you will love this. Our only warning is that it begins with the death of one of the beloved main characters so get ready to have more tears than a Kardashian finding out she is banned from Instagram.

Also let’s discuss some of our issues with it. Lorelia (the mom and my personal favorite character) has gotten old. Not just like “oh she aged gracefully” old, but like she needs some Botox done old. She is obviously still gorgeous it’s just that it has been so long since she had that role that we can’t get over her glory days.

Besides a few nip/tuck issues, the whole thing is pretty solid. Except for Rory. Adult Rory sucks. Her life choices, her attitude, her character. She didn’t age well either character wise not physically. Life for the Gilmore family worked out the way it was meant to be.

Basically we think this show is a great reminder for the series we all fell in love with. It answers some questions that we always had and gives us new insight to the characters as older adults in today’s time. Long live Gilmore Girls.

4/5 stars for this show and a 9/10 rating for binge worthy success
